Pictures from 11/3/09 and 11/4/09

I also got to feed him for the first time, but he wouldn't wake up.

What you looking at?

Travis had another good day. He got moved over to the A side of the NICU this morning. He was on the B side which is used for babies that are more critical. This news was a good way to start the day, because they close the B side a lot to do procedures on the babies. Nicole got to spend the entire day with the baby and got to feed him 2 more times today. His eating has increased to double what he was eating yesterday. Travis is doing well and we just enjoy sitting and watching him grow. No other news to report.

NOTE FROM NICOLE:
I watch him all day and just look at his expressions. I am noticing more and more that some of his expression look like mine, especially when he furrow his eyebrows. Time flies when I am just looking at my baby.

Travis was sleeping comfortably and somebody disturbed him. So he let them know how he feels. Must take after his mom after being woken up from a nap.

Travis really likes his BIG orange pacifier. It keeps him calm.

1/3/2009 Update

The news of the day is that Travis' infection will need at least 5 more days of antibiotics. What that means for his surgery and everything else is that we wait. We have to wait for the drugs to work and get rid of the infection. This unfortunately is the way it goes and there is nothing we can do about it. They seem like they are not worried about it and I guess we should not be either. The P.A. Band procedure that they performed on him last week buys them as much time as they need to perform the Norwood. In the meantime, Travis is learning how to eat from a bottle and do things non-hospitalized babies do. He is also getting a little bigger weighing in today at 6 pounds 11 ounces. Nicole gave him his first bath today and also got to feed him. I got the chance to feed him tonight, but he was so comfy that he slept through it. One of the other nurses had to come over and wake him up and force him to eat. I am definitely too scared to be jostling him around like she did. He has so a lot of tubes still in him that scare me a lot. As far now we are just waiting for Travis to fight off the infection and get stronger so he can get to the next step in his journey.

Nicole was so happy to hold Travis again. It's been 4 days since she held him.

I got another chance to hold him as well. Great ending to a long day.

11/1/2009 Pictures and Updates

Late Night Surprise. Travis got off his respirator again tonight at 10:30p.m.

Please pray that he will do fine with out it until next surgery. Getting off of his respirator is a

major step in the right direction. I hope he continues to be strong as the days go on.

Travis had his eyes open for awhile, then as soon as the respirator was off he was bright eyed and looking around

Travis was ready this morning for the Charger Game.
CHARGERS are 2-0 since his birth. Coincidence........I don't think so.

Travis loves mommy holding his hands and head. I pray that Nicole will have the strength
during the day as I start back to work tomorrow. We made a family decision for me to go back
to work to save some of my leave until he has his major surgeries. We are trying to look at the
big picture. Travis will definitely need a major open heart procedure in the next couple of weeks, but also will need another major open heart procedure in February or March. I will hate
leaving my wife and baby Travis for a minute. It will be tough adjusting back to work, but I hope that time flies when I am there and I can get back down to see my baby boy. I hope I can express to my students that they are lucky they are healthy and alive. After being here for just 11 days I have witnessed some good and bad things. The sad that sticks in my mind is the Xavier boy who is overcome with cancer at the age of 9. I saw Xavier's dad again today and could not stop thinking of the pain he must be going through. His son will soon be gone to a better place and am so heartbroken for this dad who has too make the decision no one should ever have to make. Take advantage of what you have because your world can change in a heartbeat.

The San Marcos Knights Football Family dropped off some food, snacks, beverages, and
a lots more today. There are no words to express our gratitude to our family, friends and supporters. A special thank you to Gayle and Kathy for their extra effort. Nicole, Travis and I
feel so lucky to have so many special people around. Thank you so much for all of the support.
